Fall Cycle Grants Announced
The WWF Board of Directors has awarded $62,000 in grants for the 2nd cycle of 2012 to four deserving OKC public schools. Three of these schools Jefferson Middle School, ASTEC Charter Schools and Centennial Mid High, are repeat recipients.
"Every grant cycle, the number of applicants increases which just proves how much need is out there. It's a great feeling to be able to help these schools out and give these kids the same opportunities as I had, while also giving them pride in their school and in themselves. And it's also exciting to see different programs apply. I think we are finally getting the word out to the coaches and administrators that we exist and are here to help with ALL sports and not just football." - Wes Welker.
This cycle's recipients are:
Jefferson Middle School ($25000 for football/softball field improvements)
ASTEC Charter Schools Athletics Program ($10000 for basketball and soccer equipment)
Centennial Mid High School Athletics Program ($25000 for weight room equipment, end zone camera and batting cage)
KIPP Charter School Athletics Program ($2000 for weight room equipment)
The Wes Welker Foundation awards grants twice a year (Summer and Fall) to worthy schools and organizations in the Oklahoma City area. In the last 5 years, the foundation has given out over $300,000 in grant money in the OKC area and $70,000 in the New England area. Wes Welker founded the WW Foundation 7 years ago to help level the playing field for underprivileged kids in his hometown. Our mission is to influence at-risk youth by encouraging their full potential through athletics and positive role models. We accomplish this by providing athletic grants to schools in need, free sports camps for at-risk youth, and a coach and leadership development program.
